Luigi Kasimir
Luigi (Alois Heinrich) Kasimir;1881 - 1962, etcher and painter, born in 1881 in Pettau, Yugoslavia, now Slovenia. Studied at the Vienna Academy of Art under William Unger, who introduced Kasimir to the technique of colored etching. Luigi was one of the first artists to develop the technique of colored etching. From a sketch, usually in pastel, he would transfer the design on to a number of plates, printing each one and applying the color on the plate by hand.
The three most famous aquatint artists were from Austria; Luigi Kasimir, T. F. Simon and Hans Figura. Each specialized in European and American city views and landscapes.
An extremely fine lithograph which is bright with unfaded colour. Printed in coloured inks, the image printed on a japon paper sheet measuring approximately 21 cms x 25 cms. (8¼ x 10 ins.) attached by its top edge to a backing.
Titled and dated in the image and signed in pencil by the artist.
Unframed and unmounted, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
