Ota Janecek (Ota Janeček)
Ota Janecek 1919–1996, Czech painter, book illustrator, sculptor and designer. Born in Pardubice in Bohemia. Studied graphic design at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague 1938-41, made a reputation with drawings and paintings influenced by Modigliani. Afterwards made numerous paintings and prints inspired by natural forms, especially plants, including series of Paradises, Winter Gardens, Flora etc.; many of these have a Klee-like patterning. He has illustrated a large number of books, designed postage stamps, posters, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, acted as artistic adviser on several films, and made lithographs, woodcuts, drypoints, as well as sculptures in wood and metal. Lives in Prague.
A finely detailed colour etching which has unfaded colours, printed with coloured inks, the image measuring approximately 8 cms. x 6 cms.(3 x 2½ ins.) within a strong plate mark and impression.
Printed on a wove paper sheet size 17 cms. x 17 cms.(7 x 7 ins.)
Signed by the artist in pencil with the edition 38/100.
Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and sheet is good with a toning to the sheet edges.
