Pamela Colman Smith

Pamela Colman Smith 'Pixi'; 1878-1951 British artist, illustrator, writer and occultist, born in Pimlico to American parents in London, England and died in Bude, Cornwall. Despite her connection with England, throughout her youth she called herself an American. She worked in the theatre, explored the occult, was a suffragette and then, just before WWI, converted to Catholicism and retired with a modest inheritance to run a priest’s retreat in Cornwall. Except for a few small items, mostly for friends or relatives, her public artworks and appearances ceased.

A linocut, with hand colouring, the image size measuring approximately 15 cms. x 11 cms. (6 x 4½ ins.) within fine impressions, printed on a wove paper sheet size 21 cms x 23 cms.(8 x 9 ins.)

Unframed and unmounted,blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and the sheet is good with age toning and handling marks condusive with age.
