Stewart Carmichael 1924

Stewart Carmichael; 1867-1950, portrait and landscape artist, architect, and decorator. Born in Dundee, Scotland, an associate of the Celtic Revivalist and symbolist painters John Duncan and George Dutch Davidson. Educated at Dundee High School and studied art in France and Belgium. He painted many historic subjects, including a great patriotic mural for the Dundee Liberal Club.

Stewarts work is included in the collections of The University of Dundee, and other museums. Carmichael was on the Board of Governors of the University of Dundee for many years and is listed in Johnson's Dictionary of British Artists, Mallett's Index of Artists, The Dictionary of Scottish Painters and Davenport's.

An excellent print with superb unfaded, black ink lines and textures. The image measuring approx 40 cms. x 30 cms.(16 x 12 ins.) on a laid paper sheet size 53 cms. x 40 cms.( 20¾ x 16 ins.)

Monogrammed and dated in the image and signed and titled in pencil beneath the image.

Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image is fair with two worm holes in the image, not immediately noticiable but mentioned for accuracy. There is creasing and handling marks condusive with age.
