Thomas Moran

Thomas Moran; 1837-1926, American painter and printmaker of the Hudson River School in New York, originally from Bolton, England, and whose work often featured the Rocky Mountains. Moran and his family took residence in New York where he obtained work as an artist. He was a younger brother of the noted marine artist Edward Moran, with whom he shared a studio.

This etching has retained its excellent colouring, bright and unfaded, with superb detail and toning in dark brown ink, the image measuring approximately 22 cms. x 14 cms. (8½  x ins.) printed on a chine colle applique within a strong platemark and impression on a wove paper sheet size 43 cms. x 30 cms, (17 x 12 ins.) with full margins.

Signed with the artists monogram in the lower image.

Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is very good with handling marks condusive with age.
