Tom Adams

Born 1926 in Providence Rhode Island, U.S.A. and trained at Chelsea School of Art and Goldsmiths College. Tom wrote and illustrated Regimental Histories for Eagle, and various features on natural history for Eagle, Girl and Swift. He lived in Trottiscliffe. In the sixties began a career as book cover illustrator and illustrated for John Fowles' novels; The Collector, The Magus and The French Lieutenant's Woman, and the covers for Agatha Christie.

In 1967 Adams opened the Fulham Gallery and designed posters for Mark Boyle's light shows which went on tour with The Jimi Hendrix Experience and The Soft Machine. He also met Lou Reed, who asked him to design the cover for his first UK album and painted the cover album for 'Iron Maiden - Greatest Hits'

His portrait commissions have included HRH Prince of Wales, Benjamin Britten, Frederico Fellini for the Playboy organisation, Bud Flanagan, Richard Dimbleby, President Tubman of Liberia and Enid Blyton.

Tom Adams worked on the films; 2001 A Space Odyssey and Flash Gordon, he was also involved in making concept paintings for Tobe Hooper's Space Vampires working with John Dykstra (Star Wars).

This original serigraph has bright and unfaded colouring, fine shading and detail qualities, an image measuring approximately 39 cms. x 26 cms. (15½  x 10 ins.) on a medium wove paper sheet, 44 cms. x 33 cms. (17 x 13 ins.) 

Pencil signed with the date lower right below image, titled in pencil with the annotation; A/P lower left.

The condition of the image and sheet is good with a printers crease and handling marks to the sheet condusive with age.
