Willi Eplinius; 1884 – 1966, (Potsdam) German etcher, printmaker, painter, set director and painter of the DEFA (Deutsche Film). In his youth Eplinius received a state scholarship and became private pupil in the master class of Professor Max Koch (1859-1930) in Berlin. Eplinius created the set sketches for Friedemann Bach (1941), Ernst Thälmann – Sohn seiner Klasse (1954) and Ernst Thälmann – Führer seiner Klasse (1955)
This fine etching with drypoint has retained its excellent colouring, bright and unfaded, in black ink with very fine detail, ink lines and plate tone, the image measuring approximately 32 cms. x 23 cms. (12½ x 9 ins. ) printed within a strong platemark and impression, on a wove paper sheet 43 cms. x 35 cms. (17 x 13¾ ins. )
Signed and titled with the edition 67/100 in pencil in the lower margin.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is very good with handling marks condusive with age.
