William A. Cuthbertson
William Alexander Cuthbertson; Scottish painter and etcher, studied in Edinburgh and Paris, flourished early 1900s. Official artist on the ship ‘Scotia’ with the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition of 1902-1904 led by William S. Bruce.
This etching is bright and unfaded, with excellent detail in black ink, with fine plate toning, the image size measuring approximately 17 cms. x 11 cms, (6½ x 4½ ins.) within a strong platemark and impression, on a wove paper sheet size of 26 cms. x 20 cms. (10 x 8 ins.) with makers watermark and deckle edges.
Signed and dated by the artist in pencil beneath the image.
Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image is very good with handling marks and scuff marks to the lower sheet, condusive with age.
